Tether (USDT), a cryptocurrency, helps the U.S. DOJ seize $5 million from a fraud scheme

Tether helped the U.S. Department of Justice seize $5 million USDT in a fraudulent scheme. This reinforces its commitment to fighting illicit activities.

Tether, as the biggest company in the digital assets industry, has made a major step in its ongoing effort to combat illegal activities. Tether claims that it has helped the U.S. Department of Justice seize nearly $5 million USDT through a sophisticated fraud scam.

Pig Butchering Scam

The "pig butchering" fraud targeted victims by creating fake online relationships. They were then tricked into investing in counterfeit cryptocurrency platforms which mimicked the legitimate ones. In a recent DOJ press release, the seizure was hailed as a major victory in the fight to combat cyber-enabled scams.

Law Enforcement Collaboration

Tether was instrumental in facilitating the seizure of stolen funds by freezing wallets linked to the fraud. The effort was part of an broader collaboration between Tether and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, highlighting Tether's proactive efforts to combat criminal activities and assist victims. The company also integrated the FBI into its platform in order to improve investigative synergies.

Transparency is a commitment

Paolo Ardoino reaffirmed Tether's commitment to working with agencies of law enforcement, saying, "Tether is resolutely committed to its mission of supporting global law enforcement efforts to combat illicit uses of cryptocurrency." We condemn USDT, or any other cryptocurrency, for being used in criminal activities. "We are committed to working with law enforcement agencies to fight fraud.

Track Record of Assistance

Tether's proactive approach to assisting law enforcement shows its commitment towards transparency and accountability in the cryptocurrency industry. The company has helped more than 145 law enforcement agencies in 40 jurisdictions. It also redistributed over $108.8 millions USDT to the rightful owners, as well as to law enforcement. Over 1,900 wallets linked to illegal activities have been voluntarily blocked.
