Hong Kong Monetary Authority issued a warning regarding a website that poses as OCBC Bank Limited (Hong Kong), urging the public to be vigilant.
Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued a warning to the public about a fraudulent login screen and website linked to OCBC Bank Limited. The alert was released after OCBC Bank issued a press statement highlighting the cyber-threat.
The HKMA reported the fake login screen and malicious website to them. This led to a public warning. The authority stressed that legitimate banks would not send emails or SMS with embedded hyperlinks leading users to their website for transactions. Banks will also not ask for sensitive information such as login passwords and One-Time Passwords via email, SMS, or phone.
The HKMA urges anyone who may have interacted with a fraudulent website or given personal information to immediately contact OCBC Bank using the details provided in the press release. To help with the investigation, it is recommended that you also report the incident at the Crime Wing Information Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force by calling 2860 5012.
This incident highlights the growing cyber threats to Hong Kong's Financial Sector. Recently, phishing scams have increased and there are more fraudulent websites that target banking customers. Financial institutions and regulatory agencies are working actively to combat these threats. They have enhanced security measures and increased public awareness.
